SEO - Strategy 2021. How to rank your website #1 in Google Full Course Transcripts
1. What is search engine optimization?
Hey, guys, my name is Anton Voroniuk, it's my pleasure to welcome you to my SEO strategy course on Udemy.
If you want to build a successful SEO strategy for your project, figure out what prevents your site from getting to the first position of Google and learn how to use the most effective SEO tools.
Why should I be the one to teach you about search engine optimization?
"Webpromo" agency, where I am the CBDO, has been on the market for twelve years and has implemented more than one and a half thousand advertising campaigns and search engine optimization strategies for global companies and brands.
We rely heavily on SEO for our own projects and our client's projects.
I’ll share my skills, best tips, and tools that will help you efficiently implement everything you do regarding search engine optimization.
Why are we talking about SEO today?
Search engine optimization is a tool that allows you to get a huge audience that is specifically interested in your product.
The first and the most basic advantage that search engine optimization has is demand generation.
There are ten billion Google Searches per day.
People want to find out more about your products, what your company is, and how it is promoted.
All of this information can be found in Google.
Google is the universal answer to user's questions.
Thanks to search engine optimization tools and a well-formed SEO strategy, you’ll be able to reach the top of a search engine's results and increase traffic to your website.
If I were to use competitive analysis tools like SimilarWeb and Semrush to analyze your current market, I guarantee SEO would be your competitor's biggest traffic source.
On this slide,
you can see an example for Udemy.
Udemy is the largest training marketplace.
Udemy has a huge amount of direct traffic.
Direct traffic consists of people who are already aware of a website and simply type the website name into the address bar.
If we were to take the direct traffic out of the equation, then SEO traffic would be the number one traffic source.
People are constantly looking for courses.
They are looking for courses about search engine optimization, digital marketing, data science, programming and other areas.
This specific information is displayed in the Search Column.
When you look at your niche and specifically your topic, you’ll see the exact same pattern.
People use search engines to go to your competitors' sites and buy their products.
So, within the framework of this course, we help you fix your site, text, and links so that your site and your product can reach the top of the search results.
2. SEO checklist
To make this course as practical as possible, I have prepared a checklist template. You can download this template in the lesson material section or by using the Google drive link provided to you. While working through this course, you will learn about:
technical optimisation
content
keywords
and link mass building
3. SimilarWeb service overview,
Learn how to analyze traffic and sudy the market
Now, let's go to the Similar web service for a second, so we can find out what the most popular search engines are in your country.
After that, we’ll see what percentage of the audience comes to your competitors from search engines.
Let's discover why search traffic plays such a significant role in your digital strategy.
SimilarWeb is one of the best tools for competitive analysis. Enter SimilarWeb into your address bar.
Type in "Udemy.com" into the search box. First, we can see the overall audience Udemy is getting. Udemy has one hundred and eight million traffic.
That's a pretty impressive figure, but that's not what I'm interested in.
We want to know where this audience comes from.
64 percent of the traffic is direct.
These are people who already know about the Udemy platform. They type in "Udemy.com" into the address bar and they come directly here.
I am more interested in this column here; twenty percent of Udemy's traffic comes from search engines.
Remember, Udemy's total traffic is one hundred and eight million, which means about twenty-four million traffic comes from search engines. Scrolling down a bit, we can see how much of this paid traffic is from search engines. How big is their organic traffic?
They have a total of twenty four million traffic from search engines.
A third comes from paid traffic, and two-thirds comes from organic searches.
Sixteen million Udemy users come from organic searches.
For example, if we analyze WebPromoExperts with SimilarWeb, we will see that the gap between search engine traffic and other types of traffic is even larger.
We have about one hundred thousand traffic per month. From this one hundred thousand traffic,
fifty-eight comes from search engines.
Most of this search traffic is organic, which means it is SEO traffic. Thanks to search engines, We can interact with a huge audience.
Using SimilarWeb, do you think we can find more evidence that your SEO strategy should be your primary
focus?
By clicking on the link that displays your project overview, you can see that I am in Ukraine. I click on "Ukraine", now I can see what sites are the most popular in this country by current month.
Here is the data for the previous month, and we see that Google is in first place. It shows that search engines bring the biggest audience, and search engines are the most helpful for users to find answers to their questions.
One of the best things Similarweb can do for you is to tell you where you are in the market and what search engines are the most popular in your area.
Google has a monopoly in Ukraine.
Despite the ban, some small part of the audience uses Yandex, and they go there via proxy.
In fact, we can even take a look at exactly where our audience is from.
We can find out information about any market.
For example, we can choose the United States market and see how things are going with their search engines.
Here we can see that Google is in first place.
Google is still the leader and Yahoo is in the sixth place.
I'm not seeing Bing at the moment.
Oh, there it is; Bing is in the twenty-sixth place. Microsoft's search engine is not very popular.
You will primarily be working with Google algorithms when you are building an SEO strategy for the United States. Use Similarweb to understand which search engines you need to work with.
Use Similarweb in order to see how much traffic your competitors are getting from search engines.
This knowledge will allow you to build the right strategy.
4. SemRush overview. Traffic
analysis. Comparison with competitors
Using Similarweb, you have learned about where your competitors' traffic comes from and how significant
search engine traffic is. SimilarWeb will not show data for sites that receive less than fifty thousand traffic
per month.
If you want to analyze a site that receives less than fifty thousand traffic per month, I recommend using Semrush.
Let's move on to the tutorial so I can teach you how to use Semrush.
Let's figure out why Semrush is such a good service. I LOVE Semrush very much.
This service has a lot of advanced SEO features.
The first two tabs here are dedicated to SEO. The two tabs are SEO and Local SEO.
We have a lot of features here for content marketing and competitive analysis.
This is a huge amount of data that we can use for projects.
Semrush will be extremely useful if you are analyzing a niche that is currently not too popular.
Semrush will show traffic on sites that even have less than fifty thousand visitors.
Let's do the same type of analysis that we did for "Udemy.com".
We can see that Semrush provides a huge amount of data.
We can look at domain authority in terms of SEO. We can see the approximate amount of organic traffic
on Udemy.
Similarweb told us it was around sixteen million. Semrush is telling us that it is about eleven million.
We can see how much paid traffic there is and how many links are linked.
Semrush gives you a general traffic overview, shows you popular search requests, popular keywords, and
it lets you compare yourself with your competitors.
You see, Semrush immediately picked competitors for us. Here we see Edx, Lynda, Coursera, and others
are all competitors of Udemy.
For you, Semrush will be an extremely critical and important tool that allows you to understand how
your competitors are doing with search engines.
At the same time Semrush can estimate how much traffic they receive from search engines.
Let's check out the Backlinks section for a moment.
Here we see how many DoFollow and Nofollow links we have. Next,
let's look at the Traffic Analytics section.
All we have to do is go to the Traffic analytics report.
Here we see that last month there were ninety-five million visitors on Udemy and twenty-nine million
unique users. Here we
see the engagement. Since we are primarily interested in SEO traffic, let's check it out.
So Semrush is estimating that they get about 12 point 6 million traffic from search engines a month.
We can analyze any site, for example, Webpromoexperts.net.
Alright,
we have one hundred and forty thousand traffic and ninety-eight thousand unique users.
Semrush has an enormous toolkit that is really easy to use,
plus in the paid version of Semrush, there is a Market Explorer feature. Market Explorer adds a huge amount
of data to your strategy, like who your competitors are, how their traffic is distributed, and a
llot of other useful data that will allow you to build your SEO strategy effectively.
5. The pros and cons of search
engine optimization and PPC advertising :
Hopefully, in the previous two videos, I've convinced you that SEO plays a huge role in driving traffic
and getting an audience to your site. Gaining an audience from SEO and PPC both have their advantages and disadvantages.
For those of you who have run Google Ads on your site before, you understand that this
is a very cool tool that should be used in conjunction with
SEO. You must use PPC advertising and search engine optimization.
Let's compare these two advertising methods. An advantage of PPC advertising is speed.
In a days' time, you can launch a full-fledged advertising campaign in Google Ads and start attracting
an audience.
You'll start receiving calls, requests, and your first customers. Search engine optimization takes
a long time. Depending on the competitiveness of the niche, it may take you several months to a year
to be at the top of a search engine's results.
The more competitive your niche, the more time it will take to reach the top.
You can calculate the results of your PPC advertising.
There is an analytics system that you can use to build transactional analytics.
You can calculate everything. You can calculate your reach, clicks, conversions, sales, and the repeat sales that
you have received.
This is a cool advantage that digital marketing and paid advertising have.
Search engine optimization is unpredictable because algorithms are constantly changing.
There is a common expression digital marketers often use:
"Today you are at the top,
tomorrow you are far from the top."
This means that one day you can be doing great, and the next day you could be on the verge of digital starvation.
Let's go back to the table.
On the one hand, we have PPC, which is completely predictable and calculated, and on the other, we
have unpredictable search engine optimization.
Each new algorithm update can destroy your SEO.
If one mistake is made or if you move your site unsuccessfully, then you could undo years of hard
work.
The third advantage of PPC advertising is accurate targeting. We can specifically target the target
audience that is most likely to come to us and place an order. We can choose gender, age, interests,
location, and a specific platform where we want our ads to be displayed.
All of these wonderful features make PPC advertising really useful to marketers.
What is SEO? SEO is all about keywords. When using SEO, you can only use keywords to target an audience.
If you look again at our table just by doing some quick calculations, you can see that SEO doesn't
perform well.
Algorithms are constantly changing keywords.
Why is it that so many businesses rely on
SEO then?
First, there is a lot more traffic in SEO. If you type buy an iPhone into Google, the entire first
page will be filled with ads.
The whole page will be littered with ads, and perhaps somewhere at the bottom, you will see the first
organic search results.
In less commercial saturated niches, of course, things are different;
there can be one or two PPC ads. Although that may be the case rarely, most of the time,
Google is trying to occupy the first page with as many ads as possible.
People trust organic search results more, and as a result, people are more likely to click on search
engine optimization results.
Recent research shows that eighty-five percent of audiences click through organic search results, and fifteen percent
of audiences click through paid advertising links and Google Ads links.
Another advantage of search engine optimization is that it is cheaper than PPC advertising. The cost of
a click in Google Ads and in other advertising systems is constantly getting more expensive.
Depending on the country in which you run your ad, you pay more every year. One year you might pay
two dollars and then the next year you could end up paying twenty dollars.
The cost of a click can rise by twenty, thirty, forty, and even fifty percent every year.
The rising cost can be very frustrating for advertisers.
What do you do in this situation?
The thing to remember is that when you use SEO correctly, your costs (including costs for web-master,
SEO-specialist, and content production) will be literally cents for a click.
We just looked at the advantages and disadvantages of PPC advertising and search engine optimization.
Under no circumstance should you use one type of advertising.
Most of these tools need to work together.
Since our course is specifically about SEO, you must clearly understand the shortcomings it has. The
main disadvantages are a lack of predictability and speed.
I want you to remember that there are some great things about SEO. SEO can give you a huge volume of traffic
for little cost.
The next thing we will go over today is how to make sure your website is at the top of the search results.
6. How do search engines work?
How do search engine algorithms work? To fully understand search engine algorithms, you need to
examine over 200 factors.
It used to be easier to get to the top of search engine results, but since 2014 it has gotten increasingly
harder thanks to advancements in technology.
Machine learning has constantly been working on search engine algorithms.
All these ranking factors are constantly changing.
If I were to grab a Google engineer off the street, even he wouldn't know the exact formula because
it is constantly changing.
That being said, there are key factors that can help you conquer the algorithm.
Which of these key factors can change the outcome of your project?
We will talk about them right now!
The scariest thing I could do is give you a list of the 200 key factors.
Instead, I'll show you a pyramid. In this four-level pyramid, we'll look at how to build an SEO strategy
step by step. We will only list the important factors you need to be successful.
The SEO pyramid has four important levels.
I will now explain every level in detail.
7. Website and Content: The Basics
of SEO
The first level is website and content. What should be on your site in order to reach the top of a search
engine's results? When I ask a live audience,
most often, I hear: "The site must be good, convenient, and understandable.
"That's all well and good,
but at the same time, it does not address the technical aspects of SEO.
So what does a site have to have for Google to like it?
First and foremost, the site must always be available.
If you want your site to remain at the top of a search engine's results, it is critical that it remains
available at all times.
Human error can cause your site to tank.
One or two days of unavailability isn't that bad,
but if it becomes an ongoing thing, your website ranking will fall.
Search engines are very sensitive to unavailability.
You can have a great site and great content, but
you will lose ranking if you do not monitor the availability of your site.
8. How to check site availability?
Uptimerobot service overview
There are tools that you can use to check availability. Very often, there is an alert feature in
your hosting panel. You can check the box to receive an email or phone notification.
At our agency, we use Uptimerobot. I recommend that you use this service too.
There is a convenient email notification system, and you can configure these notifications settings in Telegram.
Every time something wrong happens to your site, you will receive an alert.
I want you to pause this video now and go and create a Uptimerobot account, so you can know when
something goes wrong with your site.
Let's talk about Uptimerobot in further detail. You can use Uptimerobot for both PPC advertising
and search engine optimization.
Like most services that you will come across, it has both a paid version and a free version.
Okay, we are in the pricing section now. Here we can see what each plan offers.
The key drawback of the free plan is that there are no SMS notifications, but you do get email
notifications.
If you buy the pro plan, you get all the free plan features,
plus you get 20 SMS or voice call alerts, background job monitoring, and an SSL certificate expiry
and errors.
And that's not even all
as you can see you have a lot of other features that you can take advantage of.
And lastly, you have the enterprise plan, which has all the pro plan features plus a lot more.
To start off,
you just need the free plan.
Click the "Register for free"
button. Once you are all logged in, you should navigate to this screen here.
I am going to add a site for us to monitor. For this example,
I will add Webpromoexperts.net.
We indicate the site completely
there with HTTPS, indicate "https://www.webpromoexperts.net", and then indicate the interval
with which we want to monitor. Accordingly,
we have a minimum interval of five minutes free of charge.
Five minutes is enough for us. We indicate where we want to receive notifications in the event that anything
bad happens to our site.
I am going to select gmail.com and create a monitor.
…..and it starts monitoring. At the moment, WebPromoExperts is doing well, and if there were any problems, they would be displayed
right here.
By using Uptimerobot and other services, you will be able to make sure your website is running smoothly
and that it is always available.
9. What is a search engine index?
Site visibility.
The next important factor is visibility.
We must find out how to make ourselves more visible to search engines.
I'm going to start off by teaching you about the search index.
An ordinary user might think that as soon as they type in a search request, the search engine scours
the entire internet looking for answers.
Unfortunately, this is not how it works.
The search engine looks through a specific library of information that has been found and saved previously.
Google is a wonderful search engine, but it is not able to analyze the internet in real-time.
Instead, Google’s search index is updated on a regular basis.
You must make sure your site is currently in Google’s search engine index.
This is very easy to check out.
You just need to go to Google, type in the operator "site:" and then substitute it with the name of your
site without spaces.
Let's go back to the tutorial so I can show you how it works.
How can you check if the search engine sees your site and it is in Google’s index? We type in the request
"site:" for example, Udemy.com. For the Udemy site,
the Google search engine has found four hundred and seven thousand pages so far.
We can do the same check for any site; for example, type in "Webpromoexperts.net". WebPromoExperts.net
has 3900 pages.
If you analyze the site using this command and you see zero results, it means that something went
wrong.
Most likely, the site was either not opened or closed for search engines.
There could also be a critical problem with the server that caused Google to throw away information
about your site.
It is extremely important that your server is intact and that your site is properly indexed.
The second thing that you need to pay attention to is how many pages of information your site has. In
some situations, you may already know how many pages you have on your site.
For example, you know that there are a hundred pages, and the "site:" command has already shown you that.
For example, it sees one page or one hundred thousand pages.
Both are critical issues.
In one case, for some reason, Google does not find your site.
In one case, for some reason, Google does not find your site's content. In the second case, there are a huge number of garbage pages in Google's memory.
The garbage interferes with the normal reindexing of the content and makes you constantly come back to
find out what went wrong.
There is another useful command that allows you to check how long a search engine robot looked at your
site. For this, we use
the "cache:" command. Enter the "cache:" and without spaces, enter your site.
Let's use Udemy for our site. Here we see that the bot is a cached version of Udemy, and we see that
on February 19th, a search robot came and made a copy of the website.
The more often you update your content, the more often search robots come looking for you.
Use these commands and make sure the necessary information is available.
Again, there are nuances.
for instance, you need to find the information that you deleted or removed from search engines.
For example, let's say you rolled out a new version of your site.
The old version has already been lost somewhere or deleted, and you have lost contact with the developers
of the old version of the site. If you find yourself in this position,
use the Web Archive service. With the "Web Archive" service,
you can see what exactly the pages of the site looked like.
So we can, for example, analyze either "Webpromoexperts", or "Udemy", or any other site.
We type in "Udemy.com", and we see that Udemy has been available on the internet since two thousand and nine.
Let's take a look at what Udemy looked like on August 16th, two thousand and nine.
Let's jump in the time machine and go back in time.
We see that there are problems, and the site does not
load. If I look at a more recent year, like two thousand and ten, we see a lot more things of interest.
This is what Udemy looked like ten years ago.
By using this feature, you can restore any deleted or missing content.
10. Analytic tools to measure
website loading speed and mobile…

Most of this search traffic is organic, which means it is SEO traffic. Thanks to search engines, We can interact with a huge audience.
Using SimilarWeb, do you think we can find more evidence that your SEO strategy should be your primary

By clicking on the link that displays your project overview, you can see that I am in Ukraine. I click on "Ukraine", now I can see what sites are the most popular in this country by current month.

We've already talked about two important factors: site availability and visibility.
The third important thing is the loading speed and mobile-friendliness of your site.
Why is mobile-friendliness so important?
Because all traffic on the internet should smoothly go to your smartphone.
The majority of traffic comes from mobile phones.
This is very important.
If you want to be at the top of search engine results, make the mobile version of your website the
priority.
Loading speed and responsiveness to mobile devices are two critical factors that you need to take into
consideration.
A common question I get is how fast should my site load?
The correct answer is one to three seconds.
Ideally, one second is preferred, but three is possible.
If your website is loading at a speed of 4 seconds, it's not the end of the world. There is an
old joke about a tourist and a bear in a forest.
I always ask my audience how fast should the tourist run in order to escape from the bear?
People in the audience most often answer that it's not possible to outrun a bear.
And I say you're right, but you don't have to be faster than the bear,
you just have to be faster than the other tourist.
The same rules apply for your site. In order for Google to punish you with a low ranking, you must be
slower than your competitors.
If your site is loading at a speed of 5 seconds and your competitor's site is loading in six seconds,
you are still in good shape.
At the same time, if your site loads very slowly and your competitor's site loads very fast, then you
will lose on this ranking factor, and as a result, your site will dip in the rankings.
How do we correctly estimate download speed?
I will show you how in the next video.
To ensure that your site loads as quickly as possible, we need to understand how to use three simple
tools.
The first tool will tell you how fast your site is loading.
The second tool will tell you what is preventing your site from loading faster.
The third tool will tell you if your site is mobile responsive.
There are quite a few tools that can show you your website's loading speed. I prefer to use Pingdom
Tools.
Let's get to know the Pingdom Tools service.
Like most of the services that I show, you can access Pingdom by doing a simple Google Search or by using the
links provided in this lecture.
I am going to go to "Pingdom Tools", and add the Udemy site here for analysis.
I will now select the location.
I want to look at, for example, San Francisco, and then I press start test.
Let's see how quickly the data on the Udemy site loads.
So, the site has loaded, we see an ideal loading speed of less than one second. By scrolling down below, we can
see what can be done to make Udemy load even faster.
You can check the pictures, scripts, errors, and other elements that are slowing down Udemy's loading speed.
After analyzing these statistics for yourself,
try working with your programmers to improve your site.
Udemy's site loads in
7 seconds which is more than acceptable. The Pingdom Tools service allows you to test
your site in the most popular locations.
For example, if you want to see how quickly Udemy loads in Europe, I guarantee the loading speed
will be different but not that different.
Let's see how fast Udemy loads in Frankfurt.
The speed is slightly worse. In Frankfurt, Udemy loads in 1 second flat.
Now that we have Pingdom Tools sorted out let's see how the site is indexed.
By the way, it is possible to receive notifications from Pingdom Tools when your site is loading at a less than
optimal speed.
The second tool that we will be discussing in this section is PageSpeed Insights. PageSpeed
Insights informs you how to make your website more mobile friendly. In order to use PageSpeed Insights,
we simply type in the site that we want to analyze.
I am going to type in "Udemy.com", and then click "analyze".
Let's see what PageSpeed Insights has to say about Udemy.
PageSpeed Insights has a traffic light format. There are three colors: red, yellow, and green.
Red is bad, yellow is acceptable, and green is good.
Udemy has a red level for some reason.
Here we can get an explanation of what needs to be changed in order to improve.
Take this link, and send it to your developers.
If we go to the Desktop tab, we see that everything is much better:
seventy-two is considered yellow.
So with desktops, everything is okay,
but for the mobile version, we can improve. The third tool
I recommend using is the Google mobile-friendly tool.
Google loves this tool so much that it gives a link to it, and it's even built into the search results.
The full version of the tool is available here.
If I want to find out whether the Webpromoexperts site is mobile-friendly, we type in "Webpromoexperts.net",
and hit "Test URL."
They will now make sure that we are not a robot.
Okay, now we can see that the page is indeed mobile friendly.
We are able to see various details such as how many people are registered on the site, and so on.
Google PageSpeed Insights, Pingdom Tools, and Mobile-Friendly Test
let you know how fast your site loads.
11. Basic SEO tools. Google Search
Console Review
Console Review
We have already gone through three important factors that affect your site ranking.
Now we are going to learn about Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
Google Analytics is the gold standard for understanding the effectiveness of not just your search engine
optimization but everything you do on the internet. With the help of Google Analytics, you can analyze
websites and applications.
In this instance, we are only worried about the effectiveness of our SEO campaign.
Are you growing in traffic,
does SEO traffic generate sales,
how efficiently does your SEO work?
We will answer these questions for you in the next tutorial.
The Google Search Console is a very valuable tool.
Google Search Console tells you what is wrong with your website.
Using Google Search Console is like going to a confession.
You tell the Google Search Console you have sinned, and then it gives you penalties.
If penalties have been added to you manually, you can find them in the Google Search Console.
Let's now move on to the interfaces.
We will be using a training video to learn how to use Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
Both of these tools are needed to optimize your SEO strategy.
Google has set the standard for what a search engine should be, and it has allowed search engine optimizers
to really master their respective sites.
Google Search Console and Google Analytics are such trendsetters because you can see exactly what is
happening with your site.
If we go to the main tab, we are able to see the organic traffic.
Let's open the main tab and see what we can learn about WebPromoexperts.net and the dynamics of organic
traffic.
Here we have 3000 traffic, during New Year's. 3000 traffic is a significant drop
in traffic for us. On New Years',
no one wants to read about internet marketing.
Everyone wants to have a rest and celebrate with their family.
There are a few critical things in Google Search Console that every SEO specialist should pay attention to.
We can see search performance results and search requests that attract traffic to our website.
We can see where we got our audience from, how many clicks and impressions we received;
we can even see the number of key pages.
We can find out about impressions here, and you can find out about how visible you are to search engines
as well.
Alright,
let's examine the index. Here
we can find index errors. Overall,
this provides you with a general idea of how your site is indexed.
We can load, reload, and change sitemaps.
A Sitemap is a certain guide for Google that tells how many pages you have and whether they are indexed.
In our case, we see through the sitemap that there are three thousand two hundred and seven pages
on Google, and also we see that we have a little more than four thousand pages indexed.
We have to figure out why this figure of eight hundred pages differs from this number here.
And we have to find out where these other pages went.
We can request pages that we want to be deleted from Google.
It may be the case that you have some temporarily deleted pages, pages with outdated content, filters,
and so on.
So we have many features that help us sell, a lot of tools that can help you with search engines,
breadcrumbs, events, and other small improvements allow you to look better in the eyes of a search engine.
When you look better to a search engine, you can attract more of an audience, and your website will
have a higher ranking.
You can see if you sinned before from the point of view of SEO, and you can check if there are any sanctions
from search engines on your site.
The "Security and Manual Actions" tab is where we go to look for this information.
Go to "Security and Manual Actions". In this tab, we are primarily interested in Security Issues. If you
see a green checkmark,
Google believes that there are no malicious codes
or hacks going on with your site at the moment.
But hold on,
just because Google believes there is no suspicious activity doesn't mean there isn't any.
It just means that Google hasn't found anything worth reporting to you yet. In the event that there is
some sort of malicious activity,
Google and Google Chrome will block the user from entering your site.
So even if by some miracle, your site remains in the search results, users will be barred from entering
it. Therefore, receiving any security issues
notifications from Google Search Console such as problems with the site, detected hacking attempts,
spam, and so on, are very critical.
Security and accessibility must be taken seriously.
We must immediately try to react and solve any problems as fast as possible.
In the "Manual actions" tab, we can look at manually imposed sanctions.
The "Manual sanctions" tab lets you see how certain algorithms, organic traffic, and filters imposed
by the search engine affect your site. If you see this wonderful checkbox, "No issues detected", I
congratulate you because that means you're okay.
Google Search Console is a great tool that gives you a huge amount of useful information.
Be sure to add Google Search Console to your site.
Confirm you are the owner of the website either through Google Analytics or through any of the
three other available methods.
Thanks to Google Search Console, you will know exactly what is wrong with your site in terms of availability
due to sanctions. If your site is filtered,
there are further things that we can do to solve this issue.
12. Traffic Analysis with Google
Analytics.
Analytics.
Perhaps the most vital tool to a digital marketer is Google Analytics. Google Analytics tells
you whether you have good or bad SEO. Through Google Analytics,
you can monitor your website's applications, extensions, and sanctions.
Using Google Analytics, you can find out how Google's updates affect your website.
This is two years of data from our WebPromoExperts blog.
Let's see what we can learn from this data.
The first thing that we see is that there are various tabs you can click on. "Traffic Sources", "All Traffic",
"Source / Channel," all these tabs tell you how much traffic you get from search engines.
Take into account that our blog is tailored exclusively for search traffic. We see here that eighty-
one percent of the traffic comes from the Google search engine.
By clicking on the Google organic tab, we can learn more about the organic traffic dynamic.
There is a huge drop off in traffic in January due to the holidays.
So it's safe to say that no one wants to read our blog during the holidays.
Let's start from the beginning.
We started with 25,000, then we grew to 27,000, and finally, we hit
40,000.
Our traffic peaked at 82,000,
but then there was an update in May 2020, and the traffic began to fall.
That being said, it's clear that from May 2019 to January 2021, our traffic grew, so that
means we are doing okay.
However, before the update, we were still doing better.
There are several tools you can use to analyze your data.
The first tool that you should turn to is your common sense.
Analyze why your traffic was growing and shrinking during certain periods of time.
Why do you think this happens?
Usually, there are two reasons.
The first reason could be that there were changes to Google's algorithms.
Usually, Google does 2 to 4 major updates per year.
If you see that your traffic was growing, then suddenly stagnated, it's probably because your site has
not been adjusted to fit Google's new updates.
The update in May 2020 was primarily focused on the uniqueness and quality of content. A lot of other
websites that didn't have unique and quality content also suffered.
We did not suffer the most, though.
I know some pharmaceutical resources that went from 20 million traffic to 4 million traffic due to
this update.
If you see that your traffic grew then fell, it might be due to the season.
My advice is to search for a season that you can consistently pinpoint where your traffic will grow
and fall.
If you cannot determine the season where your traffic falls, then you can use Mozcast or Barracuda
Digital.
These services allow you to make a side-by-side comparison between your traffic and Google's updates.
Here we see that Mozcast is showing Google's algorithm update history. This contains all of
Google's major updates.
Okay, let's look for a core update in 2020.
If I scroll down, I can see where the Covid pandemic happened,
and on May 4th, we see the core update.
Let's look at our graph.
In April, we peaked in traffic.
If we were to look at the data by week, we could probably find the update somewhere there.
We have to take into account that there are a lot of holidays
at the beginning of May. We were fine until the middle of May
then our traffic started to stagnate. Conversate with the SEO community to understand how the updates affected
their sites. Then take that information and apply it to your own website.
Another thing I recommend doing is to connect your Google Search Console data to your Google Analytics.
By examining the data from Google Search Console, you can see which pages received the most traffic.
As you can see, all the data is right here.
Let's take a look at the WebPromo
Experts brand keywords.
We received 11,000 clicks, 23,000 impressions, fifty percent
CTR, and our average position is first.
Here are some of our audience's common keywords:
how to present yourself, how to make money on Instagram, how to be a content marketer, and so on.
Here are some additional filters that can help you sort data.
This all allows you to find out what is effective and ineffective.
Let me tell you another way
you can use Google Analytics. For example,
we can look at weekly data and compare it with our sales. Analyzing your sales from Organic Traffic can
tell you whether your SEO is effective or not.
To do this, I go to the marketing analytics section and then click on "All Traffic" and then "Source /
Channel." In our e-commerce tab from February 8th to February 14th,
We can see our sales.
We had 55 sales, and we made over 7 000 dollars in US. In the Income Tab,
we sorted by transaction.
So you can see that Google Organic is our top sales source.
Google organic gave us 8 requests and almost 2 500 US dollars.
Google organic traffic makes up 14% of our transactions and 32% of our total income.
This is how we understand if our organic traffic is making us money or not.
If you are taking your SEO strategy seriously, you must analyze your results at different levels.
The first level is to regularly check your position.
Second: By looking at how the traffic figures are changing, you can see how many users and sessions
you are getting.
Money is our third conversion level.
Using marketing analytics, you can understand which results are giving SEO traffic, and you can see
its effect on sales.
It would be nice if you also look at this data using other sources. Go to the conversions tab, click
on multi-channel funnels, main attribution paths, and then you will see whether Google search traffic
brings your sales.
Let's analyze this further.
For example, we can see that communication started with SMS, then the user came back using
Google. Then he returned directly;
Then he used Google again.
This sale will be attributed to Google, but it started from SMS.
Our communication started with SMS,
but how did he end up in our SMS database?
We have to do a deep dive into this user's history.
We have to find out how we got this particular subscriber and how we interacted with him in the past.
It doesn't matter if you are using PPC advertising or organic search to make sales. Your user chains
will grow longer the more expensive your product is.
If a person buys a product for almost $450, the chain will, of course, belong.
SEO traffic is massive, and people are constantly typing their needs into a search engine.
That being said, even though they are looking for you, the user chains will still belong.
Most of the time, the user chain will end with Google,
but you need to remember that usually, the user chain will start with other channels.
Use google analytics and google search console together in order to find out how your resources attract
traffic from the Google search engine.
You can also use these services to evaluate the sales you get from a search.
13. Server response codes. 3
golden SEO rules that everyone b…
golden SEO rules that everyone b…
We have just completed a vital component of your website. The last technical aspect we will look at
is your server responses.
Each of you have come across a server response;
you just don't know what it is.
I am certain that you are familiar with the error message 404 not found.
If you visit a page that no longer works, you will get a 404 server response.
If you get this error, you must figure out why.
But that's not the only server response that you have to worry about.
There are two more server responses that you need to learn about because it is vital to your SEO strategy
and search engine optimization.
The first response is something you never check.
No follow-up action is needed on your part.
This is a 200 okay response. If your site is accessible and everything else is okay, you
will get a 200 okay response.
The next important response from a search engine optimization point of view is the 301 server
response.
The 301 server response means that the page was permanently removed to another web address.
So 200 okay means everything is fine.
301 means the URL was permanently removed.
404 means everything is bad.
Remember these server responses because they will be useful to you when you are trying to avoid critical
errors that can be harmful to your site.
The 3 golden rules of SEO that everyone breaks are related to these server responses. The first rule
is not to delete a page even if the product is no longer in stock or it's out of date.
Instead, just say that the product is out of stock or the product no longer exists.
When you delete pages and sections, it shocks the search engine. From a search engine's point of view,
it had a piece of content, and then suddenly, that piece of content disappeared.
How should a page be deleted according to SEO science? We first close the page from search
engines, delete it in the sitemap file, and then send a request for deletion
via the Google Search Console. Оnly after all this should you сlick the delete t page button.
When people usually delete a page, they click the button, and they think that everything will pass.
The search engine is susceptible to the removal of content,
so if you cannot delete it, write that it is no longer available.
Make sections that have similar products so that people have the option to buy those products instead.
Use this tip to keep your search traffic and attract more of an audience.
The second critical rule is not to rename the URLs.
A lot of people within our industry tend to make this mistake.
We had a client who promoted a service page, and it looked like a slash of the service. A new marketer
came and decided that he did not like the service's name and wanted to rename it.
So they proceeded to rename the service and rename the URL.
When they did this, it shocked the search engine because a page became another page.
They had duplicate content and removal of the previous content, and as a result, their site fell in
the rankings. Do not rename your URL. If you feel like you have no other option, consult with an SEO
specialist first.
The third rule is to redirect users to your new page if you change your page URL.
This is called a 301 redirect.
A 301 redirect is necessary when your company goes through a rebrand or when you need to change
the domain name.
We always ask the client developers team to keep the new URLs similar to the previous ones.
There may be some resistance from programmers at first, but you will find that the URL does not have
to be changed in most cases.
In the end, if there is no other option, you may create a 301 redirect
but make no mistake about it; your traffic will still dip.
This is what you should fear.
Try not to break the first two rules if possible.
We have just gone over different server responses.
Let's see if we can find out what our responses are suitable for our parishes.
To do this, we can type in a request "HTTP Status codes check" or "server response check" in the
Google search bar, and you will be able to find free services that check what server response code your page
is receiving.
I typed in "HTTP status codes check" and the checker "httpstatus.io." Let's see if we can find out
the server's response.
For example, we now want to know what the server response is on the Udemy main page.
If everything is okay, we will get a 200
okay server response.
Here, Udemy has a code 200 server response, and we see that HTTP.//udemy shows a 301 server
response because Udemy most likely redirects to a "HTTPS".
So let's check this out.
So we see that we have Udemy on a secure server, so
if we do a re-check using "HTTPS", I get a 200
okay response.
If we add some gibberish here, for example, abcdef, then I should get a 404 server response
when I do a status check.
And there we go, we get a 404 not found server response.
It is also clear that there are still redirects associated with the presence of the "HTTPS".
If your URL changes, set up a 301. In the case of Webpromoexperts, we used to have the domain
"Webpromoexperts.com.ua,"
then we moved to "Webpromoexperts.net"
If I typed in "Webpromoexperts.com.ua" and did a status check, I should get a 301
server response.
And here is the 301 server response. "Webpromoexperts.com.ua redirects me to
Webpromoexperts.net. For the user,
these transitions are completely invisible,
so if we type in "Webpromoexperts.com.ua", we will instantly be transferred to "Webpromoexperts.net".
.
The 301 server response means the address has been permanently moved, so don't waste
your time trying to visit the old URL.
Use the knowledge we learned in this tutorial. Do not delete the URL, do not change the URL without
the consent of an SEO specialist,
and if you have no other option, use a 301 redirect.
14. Content and uniqueness
The first level of our pyramid is a site's content. Content is essential.
No wonder there is a proverb that says, "That content is the king of the Internet."
But again, if you ask the question, "What should be the content?", An unprepared user will say
that.
it should be good, convenient, beautiful, and readable.
Unfortunately, a search engine is not interested in those things.
First and foremost, you have to have content. If you want your page to be ranked high in a search engine,
it must contain text information. According to various sources,
there should be at least 500 words.
500 words is a relatively large sheet of text.
The user behavioral factor should always be taken into account.
Look at how your competitors are structuring their content for reference.
Remember that a man loves with his eyes,
a woman loves with her ears, and a search engine loves you for your text.
If you have no text information on your site, you will not rank high in search engines.
In the early days, people constantly came to us with the same problem.
We dealt with wedding salons, beauty salons, and design studios.
Their site would be beautiful, but at the same time, there was no place for text.
The lack of text prevented further site optimization.
The second factor you have to consider is the uniqueness of the content.
If your site's content is not unique, this is a significant disadvantage that will interfere with your
promotion and ranking in search engines.
Duplicates can be external and internal.
We will now go over how to find duplicate content, how to analyze duplicates, and how to get rid of
people who regularly steal your content.
Content must be relevant and it must be tailored for the keywords.
It must correspond to the keywords that you will select in the future.
The text should be high quality and solve the user's problems.
If you're doing things right, your success will be reflected in your behavioral factors at the top
of your pyramid. If a user came to your site from a search request and immediately leaves,
this tells the search engine not to show your site again.
Quality content is critical and should be updated regularly.
Search engines want to show users sites that solve their problem.
If you are constantly giving users updated and valuable content, your search engine ranking will be high.
Let's go back to the tutorial and figure out how to check content uniqueness using free and paid services.
Let's figure out how you can quickly check your content's uniqueness and for the least amount of
money possible. I will go to Udemy.com
and see what text we can analyze.
For example: "Whether you're working in machine learning, finance, web development, or data mining
and analysis, your Python skills are likely to come in handy.
" Let's copy this text, and we see that Udemy does not allow me to copy this text.
What else can we find?" Studying courses started a new career.
"Let's check if this text is repeated anywhere else on the internet.
I will go to the google search engine, type this text in double-quotes and see where it repeats.
There are two pages where this text is repeated, but the most interesting thing is this link here,
"Show hidden results." By clicking on show hidden results,
we see three pages where the content is duplicated.
The content is not duplicated on external pages;
it is only duplicated on Udemy.
Let's check my digital marketing strategy course to see if I can find some external duplicates.
I'm here at the landing page of the course and we can see the course description.
Let's copy part of the text and see if we can find some external duplicates.
So we see here that we have many external sites that have these exact text.
This is the freest and straightforward option you can use to check uniqueness.
The problem is that doing things this way can be very inconvenient for large text volume, depending
on which region you are in,
you can fill in a request, check the text's uniqueness, or you can use the "plagiarism check" service.
Here is an online "plagiarism
checker. Take this text digital marketing strategy course, drop into the "plagiarism checker by Grammarly,"
and click "scan for plagiarism".
In this case, Grammarly says that there is plagiarism.
That is because we have seeded a lot of information about our course on different Internet sources.
Even with a manual check, Grammarly saw that the problem is quite significant.
Let's try another service. Depending on where you are located,
this service will do individual checks in each country to ensure there are no duplicates. Checking
the text and checking the site.
There are a lot of sites that we can use to check plagiarism.
Just go to Google and type in "plagiarism checker" to find a vast number of tools.
Let's see what we've got.
They took the text, analyzed it, and compared it with similar text.
Let's look at the information that we can directly analyze by uniqueness. Problems from uniqueness stem
from external and internal duplicates.
If your text is often stolen, you can copy-block your text or file a DMCA complaint to Google. You
can add a link when copying at the end. These methods help you implement your anti-plagiarism toolkit.
If you make your content unique, you will improve your search engine ranking.
15. How to choose keywords for
your site.
your site.
The second level of the pyramid is the analysis of keywords. When developing your site, you should start
with the keywords you plan on using.
You can use keyword search services to find keywords related to your niche.
Try to find all the possible keywords for your niche.
The semantic core is the list of keywords that you have chosen.
We will now work with semantics thoroughly. Start by splitting keywords into groups, subgroups, categories,
and subcategories. And you should get a tree-like structure like this representing what the audience is
looking for in a search engine.
Using this model, you can design your site with an understanding of what each page needs to achieve
maximum optimization.
Have any of you use this approach?
Unfortunately, 95% of people don't.
Usually, people make a website with 5-20 pages and then are confused why they don't have clients.
The simple answer is that a typical website is not created with search engines in mind.
When this happens, they go to an SEO specialist, and they tell them they have over 20 000
keywords and 20 site pages.
It doesn't work that way.
There has to be 7-20 keywords per page, and it is your job to tailor them for optimization.
Writing content and updating content for keyword requests is a vital part of an SEO optimizer's job.
Now that we understand keywords and what a semantic core is, we are ready to move onto the next part of
our lesson.
We just went through the technical compliance stage where we worked with site content, errors,
conducted an SEO audit and learned how to compose a semantic core.
Now we will learn about the keyword planner service.
The keyword planner service will help us pick the right keywords by identifying which keywords are prevalent
in your niche. Keyword planner allows you to see which keywords are driving traffic to your competitors' sites.
With the help of "Google keyword planner" and "google trends," we can analyze keywords' seasonality and
how the frequency of request change from month to month.
The classic keyword selection method is to use Google tools. PPC
advertising specialists often do not even use third-party tools such as Serpstat, Ahrefs, Semrush, and others.
They only use Google's tools.
We will look at both options and figure out how to collect keywords using tools such as "Google
ads keyword planner."
We will learn how to analyze keywords by seasonality using google trends and paid SEO software. Using
these tools will allow you to collect semantics quickly.
Let's move onto our next tutorial.
Let's take a quick look at how to select keywords. I will use "Google ads keyword planner" first. Go to the "Google ads"
account.
I'll show you how the data differs
if you use an active advertising account, instead of an inactive one. Click Google ads keyword planner,
and then select Keywords.
Now I am asked to choose 1 of the 2 accounts.
One of them is not active, one of them is active.
Let's start with an active account.
Go to the account and click the "Tools" tab. In the "Tools" tab select "Keyword Planner". In the planner,
select “Add keywords.
Ok now we are at the Keyword planner.
Find new keywords,
for example, select SEO courses.
Let's see how popular SEO courses are.
We see that SEO courses aren’t that popular.
1,900 results for SEO courses and 1,600 results for SEO training courses.
In total, we have 605 keyword variants in "Google ads keyword planner”.
That was the first way. Here
we can estimate the volume but first we have to filter out all of the garbage.
We can download a keyword list and download them as csv.
Hit save, then go to "Tools", and select "Keyword Planner" to look at the number of searches - we select the
file we just downloaded and click send.
As you can see, the volume is insignificant.
Many people do not want to become SEOs.
That's surprising because it is a great digital marketing profession.
Be sure to look at the number of impressions we have over 17 thousand impressions and more than
one and a half thousand clicks.
This is approximately the volume that is in PPC advertising. In
SEO, we can also estimate the volume of traffic that we will receive depending on what position we are
in.
That means fifteen to seventeen thousand people are regularly interested in SEO courses per month.
With the free tools we have complementing these statistics,
“Google trends'' fits right into strategy.
You can go to "Google trends'' and see if requests for SEO courses have a seasonality.
Go to "Google trends'' and type in a request for an SEO course.
The request is not very popular.
Let’s choose the location that interests us. In the USA,
we see that SEO courses are not very popular.
For example, let's find out what they think about a vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Requests for the Dominican Republic have a specific seasonality.
The requests are substantially higher in June, July, and August.
After August, people do not want to vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Let's try vacation in Turkey for our next example.
Theoretically there should be two peaks. Here
we see that interest for vacations in Turkey is high in the summer, active in the fall. And in the spring due to
covid,
there is not a lot of activity.
We can look at the activity over long periods of time to see how the activity changes over time.
We see that the demand fell sharply due to covid. People seemed to have stopped traveling and we can see
how covid has affected the tourism industry.
The first option is how we can select keywords.
For that we use google keyword planner.
If we connect to an account where we don't have an active Google Ads campaign, then the keyword planner
will not be so useful because it will not show how many specific keyword requests a certain topic has.
Go to the "keyword planner" selection tools.
I’m going to type in my previous request for SEO courses.
We typed in a request for SEO courses so we should see some results,
but instead of a specific figure, we now see how many people are asking for SEO courses.
We see searches from 10 to 100 people, interested in SEO courses in Ukraine.
There is another way we can do keyword research. To do this,
we can use the Serpstat competitive analysis service. Serpstat has the widest base among many markets.
How can Serpstat be of use to us?
The simplest option is to analyze competitors' keywords.
For example type in "Webpromoexperts.net'' and look at what keywords there are for "webpromoexperts”.
Ok, we have typed in "Webpromoexperts.net'' and we have a clear view of the keywords.
There are 2.71 thousand keywords that are connected to organic search.
You can see which pages are the most active.
We can see what resources intersect within search engines and who we are competing with, all with the
help of Serpstat.
The second option is to use Serpstat for keyword research.
We can look at the same request for the SEO course in the search bar to see traffic volume.
If you remember, when we typed a request for an SEO course on google, we did not have much luck.
There were only six hundred five options for keywords.
Here we have one thousand four hundred keywords request.
There are a lot of typos included in here but we definitely still have more options.
We can also add search questions. Go to "Search suggestions'' to see what people are looking for.
OK, let's examine this list. As SEO professional courses, online SEO training, courses in the UK, SEO
training courses Nottingham, etc.. I'm only going to add things that contain a request about search
engine optimization and about why are SEO, Adwords and PPC discussed in a course in social media
marketing, phrases containing "What is this?", and "How to choose?"
These are questions people ask that are interested in SEO courses. We can optimize these search requests
in the future.
You need to take advantage of all the tools available to you to have
great SEO.
Some people like to use the classic "google ads planner" some people like to use third-party tools like
Serpstat,
it's all up to your personal taste. Here
everyone decides what they do and do not want to use.
I highly recommend combining these tools in order to have complete keyword research.
The next step is to place these keywords on the appropriate pages in order to attract search traffic
your site.
16. Internal optimization. Where
and how to place keywords.
and how to place keywords.
At this point, you have done a lot of hard work. You have collected keywords and formed your keyword
list. Keyword research usually takes an SEO specialist 3 to 5 days.
You need to look at your competitors' requests,
you need look at keyword variation combinations, and check the variants for typos.
This can be a rather lengthy process. After you have collected your keywords,
it is extremely important that they are placed on the appropriate pages of your site. Any SEO specialist
will tell you that you need at least 20 technical locations where the keywords should be.
For example, if I want to promote an SEO strategy course on Google, then I need to place keywords
in at least 5 of the following locations.
The first location is the meta title tag.
If you want your course to be first in the rankings for requests like "SEO Strategy" or "SEO Courses", then
these keywords should be in your meta title.
A title is both the clickable line that you see in the SERPs and what you display in the title tag.
Your second focus should be the description. A Description is the piece of text that we see under the
search results.
In other words, this is your advertisement.
Your description should explain to the client why it is necessary to come to your site and not your
competitors.
The third focus is your page text.
You should make sure that you are using your keywords correctly.
It is critical that you do not use the same keywords too many times in one location.
If you were to place keywords 10, 20, or 50 times in the same location,
This will hurt you, not help you.
An important factor that affects this is the mention of the keyword in the URL.
The URL is the page address of your site.
You can mention the keywords that you are interested in the URL, which will be a decisive ranking factor
for the search engine.
You can take advantage of many other small ranking factors to improve your search engine ranking, such
as subheadings h1 and h2. Try to use keywords in your subheadings, image titles, alt texts, and
internal links.
They play a less significant role than the first four key factors.
Your goal should be to improve your ranking factors as much as possible.
Try to make your titles and descriptions look like cool advertising text that explains to the client
why they should go to your site. Take into account all SEO requirements.
Let's move on to the internal optimization of specific keyword tutorials.
Let's take a look at how internal optimization works.
We have already collected keywords, and now we need to distribute them across our pages.
We have 19 courses, and we need to optimize our keywords for each course.
For example, we want to work with the keyword phrase "Content Marketing Course." We have a course
with that title.
Let's see how it ranks.
First, I go to Google and type in "Digital Marketing Strategy.
Start from Scratch" to see if the site will show up for this search request.
After the advertised courses,
the first comes our digital marketing strategy.
2021 Start from scratch.
The digital marketing strategy course is comprehensive and broken down step by step.
After completing the online course, you can take a leading position in your niche.
OK, let's talk about the most critical elements for site ranking.
These are the meta title, URL, and description.
Let's check if we took all of these factors into account when we created our digital marketing strategy
online course. The first thing I am going to do is check the title.
I have to move my cursor over the link
And it says Digital marketing strategy
2021. Start from scratch!
Our title is entered here.
Let's see what Google has pulled up. So we can see that Google pulled up our description, which contains
our keywords.
More often than not Google will use your title but sometimes Google will modify your title.
The second factor we will check is the description. I use special characters both in the bread crumbs
and directly in the description. The title and description are parameters that we have already placed directly
in the code or in the admin panel of the page.
Usually, you have two fields in the admin panel for each page,
this is a title and a description. The programmers can add it themselves,
But this is an old way of doing things.
Most often, you always have a separate meta tags field
when adding an article. Right over here, we have the description and headings fields.
I'm going to click on "view page code," and the purpose of this is to look for the title description.
So we are in the page code and we can now see the actual title "Digital Marketing Strategy.
2021. Start from scratch!
OK, here is the description.
How to build a digital strategy and increase online sales in the face of a global pandemic.
Alright, let's move on and do further analysis.
We still need to check the URL.
The URL is doing well.
Here is the phrase "digital-marketing-strategy
-from scratch course in the URL and from this we understand that we are in the Udemy digital
marketing strategy courses, most targeted URLs.
Let's check if the word marketing appears in the text.
We see that the request for marketing occurs many times on the page.
Digital marketing is an innovative way to attract a large audience to your online project and so on.
Reviews are cool format that makes your content more unique.
Use the review format to improve your search engine ranking.
We just talked about key points regarding on-page optimization.
Apply what you have learned to your site to achieve a higher ranking in search engines.
Be sure to do on-page optimization for your keywords
There should be keywords in your titles, URL description, and text. The text should remain helpful
for the user by being readable, and it should answer the user's questions.
17. Links. Ahrefs service overview
I'm discussing the most critical information in the pyramid first, and as I go through this section
the information will become less essential.
That being said, all the information that I will discuss in this pyramid is crucial.
The site and content is the first thing you should give your attention to.
Keyword research is a regular process that must be done in the right way to be successful.
Links are the third step.
Links determine the search engine algorithm and how search engines work.
Thanks to links, the "Google PageRank" algorithm can work properly.
I want to tell you a story about how Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the founders of Google, got their
billions.
Each of you has probably written a term paper. When writing these term papers,
you probably had to list your references. For references,
you may have used textbooks or some other type of material.
References like these are called scientific citations.
Let me give you a simple scenario so you can better understand references.
Let's say a student wrote a paper and used 10 students as references.
If another student wrote a similar paper and used one professor as a reference, this student's paper
would be considered better than the student who has 10 student references.
The second student's paper is better because a professor is a very credible source.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page programmed the algorithm for quality and quantity links. They named this algorithm
Page Rank.
If you think this name is about page ranking, you are wrong.
I think we can both agree that Larry Page is a little bit vain for naming the algorithm after himself
but we are all guilty of being vain from time to time.
Page Rank is the algorithm that determines the quality and number of links that lead to your site. The Page
Rank algorithm is taken into account when Google determines your site's position in its search engine.
Even before Google Penguin appeared, links played a crucial role in your site's ranking.
They are still critically important today.
How do things work today?
The variety of links, their orderliness, and the environment are now taken into account.
With the help of Google Search Console and tools like Ahrefs and Majestic," we will figure out what
you need to know about your links.
you need to know about your links. Let's practice analyzing competitor links using Ahrefs and Majestic.
Let's take a look at the Ahrefs service. Ahrefs is the leader in link analysis.
The people who created Ahrefs made the best link analysis service in the world. By logging into Ahrefs,
we can always see how the links of our competitors were built.
We can see where they got their audience from, which links they used, which anchor text they used, and so on.
Let's check out how Ahrefs works by using Webpromoexperts and Udemy for our examples.
Go to Ahrefs.
Unfortunately, Ahrefs does not have a free version.
The good news is that its trial version costs only 7 bucks.
Ok, so we are at Ahrefs, and I'm going to type in "Webpromoexperts.net".
Now we are provided with the answers that every SEO specialist should want to know.
Ok, knowing the number of referring domains is really important information.
1370 domains refer to Webpromoexperts, that's 77,000 links in
total, which means that some domains have more than one link.
I can also see how the Wepromoexperts link profile is growing.
I can see how the referring domains are growing. I can analyze where these links are coming from.
For example, by clicking on "Referring domains'', we can see which specific sites the links are coming
from.
I can sort by domain rating, or "DR", to see which authoritative sites link directly to us.
For example, SEMrush. Here's where a link comes from.
Let's see where the link comes from.
"SEO Around the World'' is an article on SEMrush's "SEO Around the World" blog.
It says here that the link is already lost.
We have SEO in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Russia, and Ukraine.
Here is a link to our old domain "Webpromoexperts.com.ua,"
but we are transported to "Webpromoexperts.net''
If we click on the link.
All of these links work.
Link's are little voices that tell search engines what your site is about. Let's analyze the link profile of
the Webpromoexperts academy. We will see a huge number of excellent news sites such as "Today", "Interfax",
"Observer", "Ministry of Finance", "NV.ua", "Union," "TSN," "Ukrinform'' and so on.
Most news resources have links to our sites and online conferences.
For example, if we filter out of the 55 times that news resources refer to us, most
of the links will direct you to our online conferences.
Here are some examples:
"E-commerce Digital Day", "Practice in the strategy of analyzing the competitor base", and "Content
Marketing Day".
Let's take a look at Udemy so we can compare it to Webpromoexperts. Go back to the general overview of the
academy.
We have only 77 thousand links and 1370 referring domains.
By scrolling down, we can see the location of these links. Webpromoexperts links primarily come from
Ukraine and Russia.
Most of our links contain our brand name repro my experts.
Most of our links contain our brand name “Webpromoexperts”. Some examples are: Webpromoexperts, "Webpromoexperts.net", "Webpromoexperts.com.ua", Webpromoexperts Academy
and so on.
Ok, let's take a look at Udemy. Type in Udemy and click search.
As you can see, Udemy is doing a lot better.
Udemy has 37 million links and 143,000 referring domains.
As you can see the number of referring domains for Udemy is increasing.
The number of links is regularly growing; as more and more people are putting links to Udemy. Because
they host courses on their platform,
they want their site to be known to other users. By looking at Udemy's referring domains,
I can see which key sites have links to Udemy.
I will again sort by domain rank.
Let's see what kind of sites are linked to Udemy. YouTube, Linkedin, WordPress, Apple, Microsoft,
and a lot more have links to the Udemy website.
Basically all major news websites have links to Udemy.
.
I’m positive that if we were to look, we could find links to Udemy on sites like BBC, Forbes, Entrepreneur, and
other major world resources.
Ahrefs provides a huge number of link tools for SEO specialists.
You can view new links, lost links and you can analyze where links came from and how they disappeared.
You can do much more than just compare multiple resources
with Ahrefs. Site Explorer has a number of other useful tools like Content Explorer. Content
Explorer allows you to see what content of yours has collected
the biggest number of social signals, mentions, keyword pickers, and site audits.

18. Analysis of links. Majestic
service overview
service overview
Another service you can use to analyze links is Majestic. Unlike Ahrefs there is a free version of
Majestic, but it is very limited.
Majestic gives you less specifics on certain data.
Majestic is an older service than Ahrefs, but it still takes into account one of the key metrics
that affect site ranking. Majestic uses
Trust flow, which is similar to Trust Rank. Trust Rank is
the basis of Yahoo’s algorithm. Citation flow’s algorithm is obviously similar to Google's Page Rank. To avoid being
sued by Google.
They changed their algorithm slightly.
The guys at Majestic decided to go a much simpler route and came up with their own metrics which they
considered approximately the same.
Let's analyze the Udemy site with Majestic.
We've already inspected the Udemy link profile with Ahrefs.
Ok, what can we find out
with Majestic?
We see a very high Trust flow and a very high Citation flow.
We see the number of referring domains, which there are 103 of them.
We see the historical data on links. In the link profile,
we can see what the quality of the links are
and if there are more high quality links than low quality links. We can see where the links originated
from and we can view a detailed history of each link along with which text was used for each link.
For example, direct texts, links to texts, pictures or redirects.
All of this valuable information can be found by using Majestic.
We see Udemy being linked primarily with branded links such as Udemy, Udemy.com, Click Here,
Udemy course and so on.
These are specific texts that link to Udemy. Majestic is an excellent tool that you can use to analyze
your links
but if you want additional data you will have to pay for Majestics premium version. Majestic and
Ahrefs can help you learn more about your competitors' backlink profile and can familiarize you with
how they build their links. Learn all that you can from Majestic and Ahrefs and implement it into
your SEO strategy.
19. Where to get links?
A question that worries everyone involved in search engine optimization is “where to get links?”
There are three approaches that you can use to find a solution to this problem.
There is a white, black, and grey area approach to link building.
If you choose to take the white area approach, there are 3 ways to build links.
These are Content Marketing, Outreach, and Influencer Marketing.
I will explain Content Marketing first.
Content marketing consists of creating cool content that people link to.
You would have to create something that is not in your niche or industry yet.
Creating this type of content has a wow effect on people and they will start to give their community
links to your site.
"Content marketing is the purest way you can gather links. For our cool content,
we hold a large number of events and online conferences.
In most cases, we get quite a few links from this. At Webpromoexperts,
we are constantly creating unique events
and as a result media outlets are constantly writing about us. External content marketing
or Outreach is when you write to a site and ask "What content would you like for us to post about this topic?"
Good websites can provide you with valuable links that send people to your site.
Some will agree to put links, some will not. For those who agree, you can post an article on their site in
order to get a link to your site.
You can also work with influencers and communities.
These are all white methods.
The market is most often dominated by the gray approach. Most often, grey area link building has something
to do with buying links. People buy links from other people
but search engines don’t like that.
For example, go to Google and type in the keyword you are interested in. Within the search results
you can of course find your competitors but you will also see things not related to you such
as news, aggregators, forums, blogs, and review websites.
You should try to get your links from
sites not related to your competitors.
Start by writing to them. For example,
write
“Hi,
I have a cool site on automotive topics.
I would like to place a link on your site.
You and the site owner would then negotiate a price and if you guys came to an agreement you would
then post a blog or an article on their site along with a link to your own site.
There are certain sites that serve as a marketplace for the buying and selling of links.
However, using a link marketplace puts you at risk of being sanctioned by a search engine.
Many link exchanges have already been banned.
Links from banned sites lose their effectiveness, so
think twice before you use a link
exchange site. Crowd marketing.
Crowd marketing is when you come to a community and start periodically posting helpful links to your
content
there.
There is a difference between Crowd marketing and Forum Spam.
If a user came to an automotive forum and asked: "What kind of spare part is better?", You could post
a link to your automotive blog post.
This is one way of doing things and we refer to this as Crowd Marketing.
If a young mother asks: what kind of diapers are best for my baby? And you say oh diapers are great,
but you can buy spare parts here, click this link.
That would be spam. Search engines punish people who use spam severely.
There are many 50 shades of gray linking building type schemes.
Most of these revolve around building a Private Blog Network also known as a PBN. PBN sites are created
with the goal of getting links.
Their goal is to get link juice to the main projects that are being promoted within the search results.
PBN’s were created five years ago, ten years, and 12 years ago,
they are basically here to stay. Back then
site networks were called satellite networks,
now they are called PBNs.
But the meaning is the same. You are creating a technical site that does not provide any additional benefit
to a user.
Again, the purpose of these websites is just to create links to your site. Of course, search engines
fight this method of link building in every possible way.
They ban these networks and penalize these websites. Search engines punish SEO specialists as best
as they can for creating PBNs but they still do it.
PBN is one of the most effective grey area link building techniques to date.
Why
am I talking about Black Hat
SEO in this chapter? Of course, we are against black SEO, but me explaining Black SEO should
serve as a cautionary tale for you.
The black approach includes Spam and Hacking.
Spam happens when your platform is unmoderated.
An unmoderated platform is when anyone is free to post comments on your content
and these comments are never checked.
Do not be surprised if one morning you wake up and there will be a huge number of comments from "prostitutes",
"casinos”, and "adult sites.”
These types of comments are not being posted manually. Programs go to these comment sections and post
the spam. Spam works poorly for both the people who send it and receive it.
Sometimes spam is used to sabotage competitors.
It depends on your profile and your link authority.
The most egregious way to collect links is through hacking.
Spam can really hurt a good website.
Even if search engines like you and you have a lot of cool sites that contain links to your website,
Spam can still ruin your site. If you open your site and find some corrupt looking links
this is a sign that your website has been hacked.
As we discussed previously being hacked can force a search engine to completely bar people from entering
your site.
20. The Fourth Level of the SEO
Pyramid: UX, Brand, Social.
Pyramid: UX, Brand, Social.
The fourth level of our pyramid are factors other than links. Let’s review what a link is.
A link is supposed to say your site is cool, high-quality and worth writing about.
Previously, if someone saw an interesting article, they would go and publish it on a forum.
Now if you find cool content where would you post it?
On social networks. Social mentions are very important, but not as important as links.
Brand mentions are when your brand is simply mentioned in the text.
For example, if someone writes an article and says: "Here are some of the best tech blogs in the world"
and lists your site among them, this will count as a brand mention. There is no direct link to you,
but search engines will understand that this is a mention of your brand in a positive light and as a
result your site will climb
the search engine rankings. It’s better if there is a direct link to your site, but brand mentions still
play a role
in your search engine ranking. UX and behavioral factors are the final factors of the fourth level of the
pyramid.
You have to make cool sites that engage your audience. Find answers to your questions and get involved
in your content.
As with the "Tourist and the Bear" rule, all you have to do is be better than your competitors. Open Similarweb
and Semrush to compare your site with your competitors.
Look for key engagement metrics such as time spent on a site, browsing depth, and bounce rate.
It is clear that the most important factor for a search engine is refusal and return
but we cannot see that. This is when a person comes to your site and then leaves.
This is always an alarming signal for search engines because it thinks it gave the user the wrong answer
to their questions.
It will try to improve itself by ranking you lower in the search engine results. SEO is constantly changing.
Back in the day, the only two ranking factors were content and links.
Now there are hundreds of factors that determine your ranking.
The Google RankBrain algorithm uses machine learning to organize these factors.
Algorithms are constantly being updated,
but the things that I have taught you in this course have remained relevant and true for over 12 years
and they will continue to be so.
The SEO strategy tips that I have taught you in this course are the foundation and fundamentals of search
engine algorithms. Fast results in SEO are over,
but still, if you learn how to use search engine optimization you can get cheaper traffic, attract
a huge audience, and increase your sales.
I hope that you put the knowledge you have learned in this course to good use. I would be extremely
grateful if you leave a review for this course. Write me a personal message or address me in the Q&A
section
if you have any questions about what we discussed today. I would be more than happy to help you
and I always reply to all messages. If you feel that I could address a certain topic
better write me a personal message.
I want to improve content so that it can suit your goals. All my content is updated regularly. Any
updates made to this course will be available to you for free.
This was Anton Voroniuk with Webpromoexperts,
I hope to see in the next course.
Thank you!
21. How to Get Your Certificate.
Hey, guys, it's Anton Voroniuk and our Q&A session. One of the most popular questions in this session
is: “How can I get my certificate?”
Of course, the user experience of Udemy platform is not the best one, and sometimes it's rather difficult
to find your certificate.
Let's do it. The first step is that
you have to log in your account.
After that, you are going to "My learning".
You are going to "My learning" tab.
And here we are.
You can see all the courses that you are enrolled in on Udemy.
Let's check any one course, where I have 100% complete. In this case, it is The Ultimate Unofficial
Udemy Online Courses Guide.
If you didn't complete the whole course, you would not get any certificate. Even if you had 1% of video
or any articles that you didn't read,
you wouldn`t get this certificate.
So before asking Udemy or me or any other person to give you a certificate, please check
if you finish the course. In case you have less than 100% of completeness, you will not
get a certificate for the course. For example, Udemy Masters.
I watched just 96%. Of course,
when I try to go here and I want to go to my progress, I can just see that I'm completed 63 of
64 complete lectures.
And in this case, I need to finish one more.
I need to find one more lecture before I will get this certificate.
Let's check.
I have checked one lecture that I finished it.
Let's check.
Can I get certificate?
Yes. Now I can get a certificate. I just click here and get a certificate.
And yeah! Certificate of Completion. This is to certify that Anton Voroniuk successfully completed
6 total hours of Udemy Masters: Learn Online Course Creation - Unofficial online course on May 27, 2021.
So now I've got my certificate, I can download it, I can download it as a .jpg and a .pdf,
I can share it on social networks. I can post it in Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. And in this case,
I have to get my certificate.
But one more time, if you didn't complete the course, if you didn't have 100% of completeness
here, you wouldn`t get your certificate.
Yep.
Let's check
another course. For example, the Ultimate Udemy Guide.
And in this case, I have 100% done and I can get a certificate here in "Get a certificate".
It's easy to do if you have such issue, you have such problem, just check any lecture, any
materials, assignments, etc. in course. And if you already did them, you had 100%,
you`d get your certificate.
And I congratulate you!
You can now post it to LinkedIn and do your best!
Thank you for attention.
It was Anton Voroniuk.
